Stimming: My Way to Keep Calm and Focused ✨💫

Monday, September 9, 2024

Hi everyone!

Today I want to talk about something super important in my life: stimming! If you haven’t heard of it before, stimming is short for self-stimulatory behavior. It’s something a lot of us do, especially those of us who are neurodivergent 🧠. Basically, stimming is doing repetitive movements or sounds that help us feel good or stay focused.

In my house, we always say: "Just keep stimming, just keep stimming!" 🎶 It’s kind of like our family motto. It reminds us that we should always be ourselves and do what we need to feel good 😊.

Some of my favorite ways to stim are super simple. I love doing rhythmic hand movements like clicking my fingers or signing 🖐. I also bounce my right leg a lot 🦵. When I need to release energy, I might be kicking my legs under the desk, jumping around, or tapping things 🦶💥. It helps me stay calm, especially when there’s too much going on!

I’ve been stimming since I was really young, like around 4 years old. Back then, I didn’t know why I did it, but now I get that it helps me release pent-up energy 🔋 and feel calm when things get overwhelming 😌. Stimming feels like a little break for my brain 🧠.

What’s cool is that everyone stims differently! Some people might rock back and forth, flap their hands 👐, or hum 🎶. There’s no one way to do it. It’s about doing what makes you feel better. For me, stimming is my way to calm down when life gets too much 😅.

And guess what? One of the best things about stimming is that it has this amazing calming effect 🌊. When the world feels too loud or too bright, stimming helps me press pause and recharge 🔋. It’s like hitting the reset button on a busy day 🔄.

So next time you see someone stimming, just know that they’re doing what they need to feel good ✨. In my house, stimming isn’t just accepted—it’s celebrated! So, remember: "Just keep stimming, just keep stimming!" 💖💪

Until next time,

Marli 😎
